چکیده

white matter lesions (wmls) are commonly observed in strokepatients with small vessel disease (svd) and are thought toresult from a progressive, irreversible disease process followingarteriolosclerosis. in this study, we report a case of partialdisappearance of wmls 1 year after a lacunar stroke in a69-year-old man with evidence of svd. we also discuss possiblemechanisms associated with this observation.

Attenuation of brain white matter hyperintensities after cerebral infarction.

Cerebral Infarction Brain white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) on MR imaging are reported to increase with age and do not decrease, though their pathogenesis is not well understood. Here, we report an interesting case in which a patient showed attenuation of WMHs at 1 year after the incidence of cerebral infarction. A 78-year-old female outpatient with hypertension and dyslipidemia presented wi...

Cerebral microbleeds are associated with lacunar stroke defined clinically and radiologically, independently of white matter lesions.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Associations among microbleeds, white matter lesions (WMLs), and small deep infarcts on imaging have been reported. Because many of these imaging infarcts were asymptomatic, the relationship of microbleeds to clinical lacunar stroke is unclear. An association between microbleeds and clinically defined lacunar stroke might suggest a common causal microangiopathy. METHODS...

Frontal white matter lesions and dementia in lacunar infarction.

We studied the associations of mental deterioration and blood pressure with severity and location of lesions in the cerebral white matter of 35 patients (27 men and eight women) aged 52-84 (mean 70.9) years with multiple lacunar infarcts; 21 had no dementia and 14 were demented. Using magnetic resonance imaging to evaluate lesion severity, we determined that demented patients had more severe le...

Cerebral white matter lesions, retinopathy, and stroke.

and Stroke To the Editor: I read with interest the study by Vermeer and colleagues1 on the risk of stroke associated with MRI-defined white matter lesions (WML) in the Rotterdam Scan Study. As cerebral MRI becomes a routine diagnostic test for widening indications of neurological disorders, this study provides further data on the clinical significance of these lesions in asymptomatic elderly pe...
